The opera “The Love for Three Oranges”
On Sunday, January 16, 2022, at 18.30, on the Grand Stage of the Kharkiv National Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre named after M.V. Lysenko see the opera “The Love for Three Oranges”.
One of the funniest and cheerful operas of the XX century – “The Love for Three Oranges” by our fellow countryman Sergei Prokofiev. This performance created in 1919 became the first comic opera of the young composer and represents the best features of his unique style: mischievous (often even “ruffian”) humor, unusual musical language full of bright grotesque, sharp rhythms, easy to remember melodies which became musical hits.
In Kharkiv, “The Love for Three Oranges” has been staged for the first time on the grand stage of Skhid OPERA (it is necessary to note, that its first staging in Kharkiv had been performed in the opera studio of our University of Arts at the end of the previous century) by the Chief Director of the theatre Armen Kaloian and enjoyed great success with the audience. It also received recognition in the professional circles, receiving the Laureate Award of the III All-Ukrainian Theatre Festival “GRA-2020” in the nomination “Best musical performance in the genre of opera/operetta/musical”.
It is worth visiting the performance in order to see for oneself: each of the spectators, as well as the main character of the opera – the Prince, son of the King of Clubs, is sure to fall in love with the three oranges! And all the more – to enjoy the music by Prokofiev due to the talent of the performers!
