The opera  «La Traviata»

On Wednesday, May 12, 2021, at 18.30 on the Grand Stage of the of the of the Kharkiv National Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre named after M.V. Lysenkoopera  «La Traviata».

«La Traviata» by Giuseppe Verdi is one of the most beloved and popular operas of the world repertoire. It is based on the well known novel by Alexandre Dumas fils “La Dame aux Camelias”. The contemporaries claimed that in this novel he retold the real story of his relations with the courtesan Marie Duplessis. This young lady gained hearts of the Paris higher society by her intellect and beauty and the heart of the writer by her sincerity and generosity. It is believed that Dumas pere is responsible for his son’s break of relations with Duplessis and his departure. Dumas fils had no other chance of seeing his beloved alive: when he finally returned to Paris, he found out about Marie’s death from tuberculosis.

The opera widely uses rhythms and melodies from everyday music of the XIX century, mainly the waltz – sometimes cheerful and graceful, and sometimes dramatic and mournful. The small orchestra prelude reflects the melancholy image of a woman in her dying hours; the lightsome melody of love became the main leitmotif of the opera.

The production of the Kharkiv National Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre named after M.V. Lysenko is made in the traditional manner, all components of the theatrical action focus on audience on the main subject – the sophisticated perception of the enchanting music of the outstanding Italian composer and authentic incarnation of the opera characters.
